Take Courage, I Have Conquered the World

EVening Prayer

O God, remind us often that you are our guide and guard along life’s paths.  Lead us in the ways of justice and love, righteousness and peace, by the guidance of the Spirit even as we prepare ourselves in thanksgiving to celebrate the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Gospel Reading

John 16

His disciples said, "Finally! You're giving it to us straight, in plain talk--no more figures of speech. Now we know that you know everything--it all comes together in you. You won't have to put up with our questions anymore. We're convinced you came from God."

Jesus answered them, "Do you finally believe? In fact, you're about to make a run for it– saving your own skins and abandoning me. But I'm not abandoned. The Father is with me.

I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace.

In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world."

O GOD, MAKE SPEED TO SAVE US

•          O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us.

•          With trouble all around: O God, make speed to save us.

•          All our foes confound: O Lord, make haste to help us.

•          In our sore distress: O God, make speed to save us.

•         In the time of fearfulness: O Lord, make haste to help us.

•         Grant us, Lord, your peace:  O God, make speed to save us.

•          From our sins release: O Lord, make haste to help us.

•         When we shed a tear: O God, make speed to save us.

•         Let your presence be near: O Lord, make haste to help us.

•         As in days of old: O God, make speed to save us.

•        Your love and peace unfold: O Lord, make haste to help us.

          Glory to you ...

intercessions

Let us pray to the Lord who is the origin, companion, and goal of our life's journey.

Stay with us, Lord, through the gift of your Spirit.

Lord Jesus, you strengthened your disciples with the promise of your Spirit:

Sustain your Church in our daily journey of faith.

You do not disappoint those who hope in your mercy:

Remember that we are slow to believe, and strengthen our faith.

You guide those who walk in darkness:

Teach your paths to all those who seek the road to life.
